Description: Native to Australia, Seashore Paspalum is often used in place of Bermuda along the coastal regions of the U.S.. Seashore Paspalum has a medium-fine texture and is dark green in appearance.

Pros:
  • Thrives in very salty soils
  • Grows and spreads quickly
  • High  maintenance
  • Low durablity
  • Is tolerant to conditions of heat, and moderate shade

 
Cons:
  • Does not react well to cold weather and will typically brown in such conditions
  • Can appear brown during low-level mowings during the summer months
  • Often requires a reel mower to cut properly

 

Color: Rich dark green, darker than bermudagrass
Texture: Medium-fine, similar to hybrid bermudagrass
Performance:
  • Tolerates high levels of salt in irrigation water and soil, and extremely high or low pH levels
  • Tolerates a wide range of alternate water sources including reclaimed water, recycled waste water, and sea water
  • Requires less water, fertilizer, and pesticides than other warm-season grasses
  • Highly drought and wear tolerant, similar to bermudagrass
  • Tolerates oxygen starved, water-logged soils better than bermudagrass
  • Recovers quickly from injuries such as divots
  • Handles a wide range of mowing heights
Climate: Thrives in warm to hot climates, USDA zones 7-11
Shade tolerance: Not shade tolerant, best in full sun all day
Maintenance: Low level of maintenance required, may be overseeded for winter color
